Decorative Quartz Epoxy Flooring at Harriman & West Airport in North Adams, MA

At Harriman & West Airport in North Adams, Massachusetts, New England Floor & Wall installed a decorative quartz flooring system designed to combine the durability of epoxy with the flexibility of an elastomeric floor. The public airport project called for a finish that could stand up to regular use while providing a more forgiving surface underfoot.

Decorative Quartz Epoxy Flooring Project Overview

  • Project: Harriman & West Airport
  • Location: North Adams, Massachusetts
  • Application: Public airport facility flooring
  • Flooring system: General Polymers elastomeric epoxy with decorative quartz broadcast
  • Additional materials: 100% solids epoxy mortar, body coat and seal coat; high-performance topcoat with anti-slip additive
  • Project requirements: Decorative, durable flooring with more flexible characteristics and reduced underfoot fatigue
  • Project coordination: Completed alongside a general contractor to meet the transportation project schedule

Preparing the Airport Floor for a Decorative Epoxy System

The installation began with preparation of the poured concrete. NE Floor & Wall repaired cracks, spalls and surface deviations, then diamond-ground the floor. Hand grinders prepared edges and other areas that the larger equipment could not reach. The crew also packed a double expansion joint with epoxy mortar for later reopening and filling, and built up drains and metal grate surrounds to meet the finished floor height.

Ship’s cove base was installed around column footings to help manage water movement. After checking that moisture levels were acceptable, the team vacuumed the prepared surface before applying the flooring system.

Building the Decorative Quartz Flooring Finish

The floor received an elastomeric epoxy coating with a decorative quartz broadcast, followed by a 100% solids epoxy body coat and another quartz broadcast. A 100% solids epoxy seal coat and a high-performance topcoat completed the system. An anti-slip additive in the final coat supported traction on the finished surface.

By pairing decorative quartz with an elastomeric epoxy system, NE Floor & Wall delivered the finish specified for this public-facing airport environment. The team completed its work in coordination with the general contractor and the project’s transportation schedule.
