New England Floor & Wall renovated bathroom flooring at two nonprofit drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities in Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts, without removing the existing mosaic tile. The facilities wanted to avoid the noise and debris of tile demolition while gaining a durable, slip-resistant finished surface. NE Floor & Wall installed a self-leveling urethane flooring system with decorative vinyl flake, completing the bathroom flooring work in three days.

- Project: Bathroom flooring renovations at two nonprofit rehabilitation facilities
- Locations: Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts
- Facility type: Drug and alcohol rehabilitation
- Scope: Two existing facility bathrooms

- Flooring system: Self-leveling urethane mortar with decorative vinyl chip broadcast

- Installation timeline: Three days
Installing Urethane Flooring Over Existing Bathroom Tile
Rather than demolish the mosaic tile, NE Floor & Wall prepared the existing surface using diamond abrasives to remove contaminants and the tile glaze. Hand grinders reached edges and confined areas. The team also addressed floor pitch, including shower beds and other locations where water might otherwise collect against walls.
Cove detailing helped reduce the risk of water traveling beyond the finished flooring area. The crew built up metal fixture locations and prepared the adjusted surfaces before a final vacuum and flooring installation.
A Decorative, Slip-Resistant Urethane Finish
The team installed self-leveling urethane mortar and broadcast decorative vinyl chips into the system until it would accept no more. The resulting finish combined a decorative appearance with slip-resistant characteristics appropriate to the bathroom application.
NE Floor & Wall completed the two-facility bathroom flooring project in three days, allowing the customer to continue with its renovation schedule.
